Foxx, Mattye - Pittsburg
Mattye E. Foxx, 89, of Pittsburg, passed away at 6:20 a.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at the Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg. She was born December 23, 1926, at Pittsburg, KS, the daughter of Floyd and Florence (Heath) Shaw. She was raised by her grandfather, Randle (Bud) Heath. She attended local schools and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1944. She went on to get her Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Kansas State Teacher's College in 1969. On January 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Andrew Foxx at Pittsburg, KS. Together they shared 51 years. He preceded her in death on February 10, 1997. Mrs. Foxx was a social worker at the Social and Rehabilitation Services, State of Kansas office in Pittsburg for 21 years. She had previously been a surveyor coordinator for Southeast Kansas Community Action Program. Membership was held in the Open Door Fellowship Church, Pittsburg. She served on the American Red Cross Board of Directors (secretary); Co-Chairman/Chairman YMCA Membership Drive; YMCA Board of Directors; Pittsburg Area Festival Association, Inc. Board of Directors; Mt. Carmel Medical Center Auxiliary; Eastern Star #28 Past Matron; Compeer Program/Mental Health Board of Directors; Public Relations of the American Association of University Women; Sunshine Jolly Janes Extension Unit; Business and Professional Women (President and Woman of the Year); Woman of the Year in Community Service of Pittsburg; Altrusa of Pittsburg (President, Second Vice-President and Secretary); AARP #2814 (President); Pride Steering Committee; United Way Board of Directors; Free University Board (PSU); Southeast Kansas Community Food and Nutrition Program; Headstart Nutrition Board; Kansas Conference on Social Welfare Board of Directors; Kansas Social Workers Licensing Board of Directors; Pittsburg State University Board of Directors Alumni Association (Secretary 3 years); Nominated for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Governor's Award; Meals on Wheels; Safehouse; Crawford County Resource Council Crawford County Coalition Advisory; Mental Health Wrap Around Committee. Mrs. Foxx also received the "Spirit of Pittsburg" Award in 2004, the "Dr. Ralf J. Thomas Distinguished Service" Award, from Pittsburg State University, in 2007 and was recognized for 40 years of service as a "Coordinator" for the American Red Cross. She is survived by three sons, Robert L. (Robbie) Foxx of Shawnee, OK, Marvin A. (Peggy) Foxx of Wichita, KS, and Melvin R. Foxx of Olathe, KS; three grandchildren, Donna Woodfork, Deborah Stewart and Chelsea Foxx; three great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Woodfork, Kevin Woodfork and George Edward Stewart; and one great-great-grandchild, Isabella Grace Woodfork. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Randy and Edward Foxx and daughter-in-law, Johnnie Foxx. A service for Mrs. Foxx is set for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at the Open Door Fellowship Church, Pittsburg, with Pastor Don Talent conducting the service. Burial will follow in the Highland Park Cemetery, Pittsburg. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Monday, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg. Gladson, Robert - Erie
Robert J. "Bob" Gladson, 70, of Erie, Kansas, formerly of Girard passed away at 8:10 p.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2015 in the Prairie Mission Retirement Village of Saint Paul, Kansas. Bob was born October 2, 1945 in Girard, a son of Jack D. Gladson Sr. and Joan (Heitman) Gladson. He grew up in Girard and attended Girard Schools; graduating from the Girard High School. He attended what is now P.S.U. before starting his career in the printing industry. On October 3, 1970, Bob was united in marriage to Nancy Crockett in Liberal, Missouri, they later divorced. On February 20, 1992 in Farlington, Kansas, Bob was united in marriage to Patricia Burks; she preceded him in death on August 4, 2015. Bob was widely known in the printing industry; both as a laborer and manager. He began his printing career as a machine operator and composition supervisor with Va-Co-Hy, now F.M.I. printing of Girard. He then partnered in ownership of Ace Forms of Pittsburg. He later partnered in APICO of Girard. Before his retirement he and Patricia owned and operated Pinnacle Solutions of Girard. Bob enjoyed fishing, golf, and raising his registered limousine cattle. Bob was a supporter of the Girard Schools and the St. Jude's Hospital for children. He was also a strong supporter of the 4-H Clubs of Crawford County. Bob was a member of the Farlington Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Shrine, Sons of the American Legion (SAL), several printing industry organizations and a former member of the Craw-Kan Board of Directors. Bob is survived by three daughters: Lisa Pride of Girard, Dina Gladson of Girard, Jill Roufs of Marshall, Missouri, two brothers, Jim Gladson of Dallas Texas, Jack Gladson Jr. and wife Nicki of Chanute, Kansas and five grandchildren, Zoe, Layla, Landry, Jalyn and Jayda. In addition to his wife, Bob was preceded in death by his parents. Services for Robert J. Gladson will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 4 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Girard with Pastor Dale Samuels officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service time. Friends are invited to call after 2:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard. Trish Gladson, 60, of Erie, Kansas, formerly of Girard, died at 3:43 p.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2015 at her residence in Erie.
She was born September 18, 1954 in Topeka, a daughter of Dexter and Shirley (Stevens) Burks.
Trish grew up and attended schools in Girard and graduated from Fort Scott Business College.
She worked at Western Insurance in Fort Scott, SEKAP in Girard, Superior in Pittsburg, Pinnacle Solutions in Girard, and the Neosho County Courthouse in Erie.
Trish married Robert "Bob" Gladson on February 20, 1992 in Farlington. He survives of St. Paul.
Trish enjoyed her daughter and her granddaughters and she never missed watching her daughter show cattle and ride in rodeos. She also enjoyed quilting, golfing, shooting trap, racing four-wheelers and dune buggies.
Trish was a member of the United Methodist Church in Girard and the George C. Brown Post No. 26, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Girard for over 25 years.
Survivors, In addition to her husband, Bob, of St. Paul, are a daughter, Jill Roufs of Erie; granddaughters Jalyn Dixie Page and Jayda Paisley Page, both of Erie; her parents of Farlington; a sister, Jean Ann Burks of Farlington; brothers Dexter Burks, Jr. of Girard, Kevin Burks of Pawnee, and Bryan Burks of Girard.
Trish was preceded in death by a [adopted] sister, Katherine "Kathy" Mitchell on September 21, 2012.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Trish’s nephew, Michael Burks, officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m., until service time.
Memorials are suggested to "Angels Among Us" and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
