Ronnie Dean Engle
Ronnie Dean Engle, 46, Liberal, MO died Monday, November 9, 2009 in Barton County, MO as a result of a traffic accident. He was born January 27, 1963 in Nevada, MO to Lonnie Loren Engle and Joan Doris Rackley Engle.
Ronnie was born and raised and spent most of his life in this area. He attended school for many years in Hume, MO and graduated from Liberal High School in 1981, and later graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1988. He made his living as a master electrician, working in both residential and commercial construction.For the past four years he has co-owned and operated Trackside Kennel, raising a variety of breeds. He was an avid fisherman and could catch fish when no one else could.He also loved to hunt, and most all sports. He was a member of the Christian Church.
Survivors include his partner of 11 years, Gayla Dawn Swarens, Liberal, MO; five children, Ashley Dawn Engle, Arma, KS, Angela Marie Grable and her husband David, Killeen, TX, Randall Dean Engle, of the home, Robert Donald Sullins and his wife Jacinda, Butler, MO, and Heather Dawn Sullins and her fiance John Willis, Branson, MO; one grandchild, MacKenzie Rayne Sullins, Butler, MO; his mother and father, Lonnie and Joan Engle, Liberal, MO; two brothers, Lonnie Joe Engle and his wife Joyce, Liberal, MO, and Jon Ray Engle and his wife Tammy, Liberal, MO; one sister, Lona Lynn Warren, Harrisonville, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2009, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, MO with Larry Brown and Bill Gillette officiating. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery in Nevada.
Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday afternoon between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.
Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Athletic Department of Liberal High School in care of Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada, MO 64772.

Bena, M.D., 98, passed away on October 13, 2010 at Lewisville Medical Center in Lewisville, TX. Dr. Bena was born in Omaha, Nebraska on July 23, 1912. He attended the University of Omaha and received his M.D. from the University of Nebraska Medical School. He completed his pediatric residency in Brooklyn, New York after which he moved to Pittsburg, KS where he maintained a pediatric medical practice until he retired at the age of 72. Dr. Bena was a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force and served in North Africa and Italy from 1942 until the end of World War II in 1945. He practiced pediatrics in Pittsburg, Kansas both before and after his military service. He was well known and loved in our community. He loved children very much and was frequently visited by former patients who told him how much they appreciated the care he gave them when they were young. Dr. Bena was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Pittsburg, and was involved with many organizations including the Pittsburg Chapter No. 58 Royal Arch Masons, the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, and the Mirza Shriners. Dr. Bena married Maurine Dickey of Pittsburg, KS in 1942. She preceded him in death on September 12, 1989. Dr. Bena is survived by two daughters, Nancy Amick and her husband, Jim Amick, of Plano, TX, and Judy Barnes and her husband, Richard Barnes, of Bartonville, TX, and by four grandchildren (Martha Burns and husband, Brendan Burns, Wendy Munson and husband, Brad Munson, Brian Amick and wife, Dr. Amy Amick, and Laura Gadness and husband, Joel Gadness) and six great-grandchildren (Alexandra Burns, Katherine Burns, Pierce Munson, Jessa James Gadness (his namesake), Liam Amick and Keira Amick). He was greatly loved by his daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will miss him so very much. Dr. Bena was also preceded in death by his parents, James Bena and Esmaralda Rybicka Bena, and by his brother, Myron Bena. Visitation will be on Sunday, October 17 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 18 at the Brenner Mortuary with Rev. K.O. Noonoo officiating. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery. The Benjamin Fuller American Legion Post # 64 of Pittsburg will conduct the flag folding ceremony. A 76-year-old woman who was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of Kansas 10 died in a head-on crash late last night.
The woman killed in the crash was identified as Dora Ellen Henning of De Soto, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The driver of a minivan, Refujio Gomez-Ruiz, 41, of Kansas City, was seriously injured in the crash.
Henning was headed east in the westbound lanes about 10:20 p.m. Monday in a 1997 Buick LeSabre when she crested a hill near Lexington Avenue and struck a 2000 Ford Windstar head-on, according to highway patrol.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts, according to the highway patrol.
