PSU Alumni & other PSU related Obituaries
I began posting obituaries of students, graduates, and anyone associated with the PSU any time in its history. There didn't seem to be much interest and many of them were deleted when the site crashed. I didn't redo them, but I'm bumping this back into the newer postings for anyone interested. The newspaper links to the obituaries no longer work.
I already have some on site in Memorials Topic. I also have in
our Genealogy Topic the obituary of Dr. Dudley Taylor Cornish .
I found the PSU Alumni Obituaries online. http://library.pittstate....chives/obits/index.html#C
It is included in the Leonard H. Axe Library site.
PSU Alumni Obituaries (See the site for additional information.)
Obituary transcriptions are provided as a service to the friends and relatives of PSU alumni and are done with the permission of the Pittsburg Morning Sun and other newspapers. Newspaper references and links to their online archives are included in transcriptions when known. Some obituary clippings are transcribed from unidentified sources. Please contact us if you have corrected or additional information on PSU alums, or if you know how unidentified obituaries should be cited.
Many online newspapers archive their more recent obituaries. The Morning
Sun's online archives start in 1998, and are linked to when they fall within that date range.

INDEX TO OBITUARIES
This index of names from obituaries in the Pittsburg Morning Sun was started by Phyllis Johnson in 1992 as a "sort of supplement"
to William Cuthbertson's 'TOMBSTONE INSCRIPTIONS OF ALL KNOWN CEMETERIES in Crawford County, Kansas, which was published in 1975. As a result,
microfilm copies of the Pittsburg paper dating back to 1975 were reviewed and the names of deceased people listed in the obituaries were recorded into a
computer data base. The names of people in obituaries in the paper since 1992 were also entered into the data base. So this data base contains name in
obituaries contained in the Pittsburg Morning Sun from 1975 through 2004, a total of nearly 40,000 names. The information included in the data base included;
SURNAME (or last name), FIRST AND MIDDLE NAME, THE MAIDEN NAME OF FEMALES, AGE, AND DATE OF OBITUARY. This information is all fairly straight forward except
the MAIDEN NAME which in some cases was difficult to determine, especially in earlier obituaries. In most cases tthe parents of the deceased are listed but in
some cases they are not. In cases such as this sometimes brothers are listed, in which case their last name is listed as the MAIDEN NAME with a (?) mark
following. Also, for females who apparently never married, 'MISS' was entered into the MAIDEN NAME column in earlier dates. Later, the same name as the
deceased was entered into the MAIDEN NAME column where her birth parents were known. In many cases, but not all, names of earlier marriages are listed as
(M/1------) (M/2 -----). In some cases there apparently were earlier marriges but reliable information was not available in the obituary. To get copies of
obituaries for deceased persons listed in this Index of Obituaries, send your request to the CRAWFORD COUNTY GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY, c/o Pittsburg Public
Library, 308 North Walnut, Pittsburg, KS 66762 along with a SASE. There is a fee of $5.00 for each obituary and this amount should accompany your request. You
can E-mail the Society at firstname.lastname@example.org, but requests for obituaries will not be processed
prior to receiving the $5.00 fee.
