When the sun came up on the morning of March 9, 1943, in Broken Bow, Okla., it was a delightful day. That was the day God chose Rebecca Louise Prater to come from heaven to earth and only He could have known just how many lives she would effect. Becky Prater-Johnson has now moved into heaven on Wednesday, July 23 at 5:23 p.m. She was number eight in a family of 10, five boys and five girls, to grace the home of the Rev. Earl and Erna Prater. The Prater family soon found permanent residence in the rural area of Seneca, Mo., where Becky's dad worked as a saw mill owner and a Methodist minister.
Becky married Denny Johnson on Jan. 14, 1961, in her father's home in rural Seneca Mo. They were married 47 years. Denny and Becky were blessed with two sons: Roger Johnson, born Sept. 11, 1961, who, with his wife Piper, now resides in Joplin Mo.; and Rusty Johnson, born July 30, 1964, presently residing with his wife Lisa in Miami, Okla. Denny and Becky have eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Becky's surviving siblings include four brothers, Melvin Prater of Fairland, Okla., Don Prater of Wyandotte, Okla., Ken Prater of Seneca, Mo., and Danny Prater of Richardson, Texas, and one sister, Mary Lewis of Miami, Okla. Her parents, one brother and three sisters preceded Becky in death.
Friends and family serving as pallbearers include: Ronnie Rabel, Randy Prater, Rick Prater, Benjamin McCormick, Mathew McGehee and Jonathan Smith. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday ,July 26, 2008, at the Community Church in Commerce, Okla., with Dennis Lewis and Keith Manion officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home in Miami, Okla. Interment will follow at Glen Abbey Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home. Becky's life was committed to serving her family. Her home was her castle and her husband was her special delight. Wiley Armstrong of Picher died Friday, July 25, 2008, at his home after an illness. He was 86. Mr. Armstrong was born Feb. 1, 1922, in St. Louis, Mo., to Deck and Claudia (Cooper) Armstrong.
He was a retired teacher with the Picher School System and a member of the First Baptist Church of Cardin. He married Wanda Thompson on Sept. 2, 1942, in Checotah, Kan. She survives, of the home. Mr. Armstrong served in the Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and three brothers; a daughter, Janet Barnes, and one grandson, Philip Barnes.
Additional survivors include a son, Kyle Armstrong of Broken Arrow; a brother, Marvin Armstrong of Pittsburg, Kan.; one sister, Corrine Moore of Otis, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Ben Barnes, Adam Barnes, Bucky Barnes, Becky Enloe, Kayla Armstrong, Bret Armstrong and Joel Barnes, and 14 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Treece, Kan., with the Rev. Charles Clevenger officiating. Pallbearers will be grandsons. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Picher.
Marie Dianne Emily Buffalo, 59, of Grove, Okla., passed from this life Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 12:25 a.m. at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Mo., after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 2, 1948, in Boston, Mass., to the union of John H. and Victoria Beaulieu Callahan.
She was of the Catholic faith. She retired in 2001 as a Teaming Facillitator for Texas Instruments, before moving to this area from Taunton, Mass. Marie D. Callahan and Arthur R. Buffalo Jr. were united in marriage June 5, 2006, in Jay, Okla. He survives, of the home. Also surviving are two sons, James Joseph Leahy and Kevin Michael Leahy, both of Bonita Springs, Fla. She has one granddaughter, Hannah Marie Leahy, and 10 stepgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, John Joseph Callahan.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 28, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Quapaw Tribal Long House, Quapaw, Okla., with the Rev. Geoffery Buffalo officiating. Interment will follow at the Quapaw Tribal Cemetery. Her sons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Services are under the direction of Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, Kan. Llora Jackie Bresee of Picher died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at her home after an illness. She was 85. Miss Bresee was born Oct. 24, 1922, in Singer, La., to John and Fannie (Bass) Walters. She lived in Picher all of her life. She graduated from Picher High School and from Northeastern State Teachers College in 1949. She was a member of Rho Thera Sigma, honorary scholastic fraternity, and Delta Sigma Ki, speech fraternity.
She taught school for 38 years in Oklahoma. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Picher and attended Faith Church of God in Picher. Survivors include two nephews and their wives, Calvin R. and Alice Walters of Frontenac, Kan., and Travis O. and Viola Walters of Tecumseh; one niece, Jillian M. McNatt of Oklahoma City, several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John C. Walters, and one sister, Margaret Walters. Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Picher. The Rev. Arland Roberts will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Scott Bruce Glover of Miami died Thursday, July 24, 2008, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., after an illness He was 45. Mr. Glover was born Sept. 18, 1962, in Tulsa to William Lee and Eva Ann Glover. He had lived in the Miami area all of his life.
He was a member of the Commerce Community Church, the Commerce Boosters Club and had coached all phases of youth sports. He was president of Commerce Little League baseball and football programs. Mr. Glover was assistant manager at Green Country Concrete for more than 16 years. He married Kimberly (Fanning) Glover on Nov. 11, 1995. She survives, of the home. He was preceded in death by his father and adoptive mother Ralphine Mayes.
Survivors include two sons, Alex Fanning and Jordan Scott Glover of the home; a daughter, Emily Madison Glover of the home; his mother and stepfather, Eva and Jim Rice of Ark City, Kan.; two brothers, Jerry Glover and his wife Robin of Pittsburg, Kan., and Stephen Glover and his wife Karen of Mesquite, Texas; two sisters, Kimberly Wright and her husband John of Tulsa, and Christine Patrick and her husband Jack of Commerce; four stepbrothers, James Rice of Salt Lake City, Adam Rice of Stephensville, Mo., Mark Rice of Shider, David Glover of Monticellio, Main, one stepsister, Connie Rice of Joplin and several nephews and nieces. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Commerce Community Church with the Rev. Paul Adams and the Rev. Bob Rabel officiating. Pallbearers will be David Davis, Jessie Tyree, David Maxville, Clint Glover, Alan Eads and Travis Eads. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Maxville, Paul Adams, Luire Erispe, Bryson Sullivan, Josh Ball and Dexter White. Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami. The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. today at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. James Howard "Bo" Spoon of Miami died Friday, July 25, 2008, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., after an illness. He was 83. Mr. Spoon was born April 9, 1925, in Picher to Fred and Mamie (McAlester) Spoon. He married Anita Stitt. She survives, of the home.
He retired from the Picher Public School District after more than 42 years of service as a teacher, coach and administrator. He was a member of the Lions Club and several other civic organizations. He attended the Picher Methodist Church and held a master's degree from Pittsburg State University. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John Spoon, and a sister, Marie Searcy. Survivors include a daughter, Cinda Coach and her husband Kenneth of Miami; two grandchildren, Tonja Mahallati and her husband Ramin of Los Angeles, and Robbie Coach and his wife Michelle of Miami, a great-grandchild, Tyler Coach of Miami and a host of nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Southern Hills Baptist Church south of Miami with the Rev. Bill Richey and the Rev. Gary Reed officiating. Interment will follow at G.A.R. Cemetery under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home . The family will receive friends from 4 to 5 p.m. today at the church.

Melanie Baldwin Harrison of Broken Arrow died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Zale Lipshy Hospital in Dallas. She was 42. Mrs. Harrison was born Sept. 27, 1965, in Baxter Springs, Kan. She graduated from Miami High School in 1983. She had lived in the Tulsa, Broken Arrow area for 22 years. She was a homemaker.
She married Doug Harrison of rural Miami on Oct. 17, 1983. He survives, of the home. Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lloyd and Emma Forson and Louise Baldwin. Additional survivors include two sons, Tyler Wade Harrison and Ryan Scott Harrison of the home; her parents, Kenneth and Mary Baldwin of Miami; a sister, Kimberly Baldwin Bui of Los Angeles; three stepbrothers, Kenneth Baldwin Jr. of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Mark Baldwin of Miami and Bruce Baldwin of Pittsburg, Kan., and a stepsister, Marcia Gardner of Louisburg, Kan. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Southpark Community Church in Tulsa. The Rev. Randy Scott will officiate. Interment will be in Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow.

Daniel Lee Palmer Jr. of Miami, Okla., died Saturday, July 26, 2008, at Freeman Health System in Joplin, Mo., after an illness. He was 58. Mr. Palmer was born Jan. 28, 1950, in Vinita, Okla., to Daniel Lee and Betty (Abbott) Palmer Sr. He had lived in Miami for 10 years, moving from Afton, Okla.
He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He graduated from Afton High School in 1968. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Afton. He worked for the City of Miami Sanitation Department for nine years. He was preceded in death by his mother. He married Sharon Palmer Whitecrow and later married Jeannie Swineheart Palmer on Nov. 4, 2000, in Joplin, Mo. She survives, of the home. Survivors include his wife; Jeannie Palmer of the home; one son, Daniel D. Palmer of Miami; a daughter, Kimberly Crager of Riverton, Kan.; a stepson, Tyrell McGehee of the home; his father, Daniel Palmer Sr. of Afton; two brothers, Greg Palmer of Oklahoma City and Jim Palmer of Edmond, Okla.; a sister, Sharon Miles of Wichita Falls, Texas; four grandchildren, Taylor Noblin, Kyle Jolley, Blake Palmer and Ridge Crager. He was "Pappy" to Chance Lasiter and Alexus Lasiter.

Alvin Claus Peters of Miami died Sunday, July 27, 2008, at Osborn Care and Rehab Center in Miami. He was 86. Mr. Peters was born Jan. 31, 1922, in Elk City to Carl C. and Pearl (Beashaw) Peters.
He had lived in Miami for 32 years, moving from California. He served in the Army during World War II. He worked for B.F. Goodrich where he retired in 1985. He married Marie Peters. She preceded him in death in November 2000. A brother and sister also preceded him in death. Survivors include two sons, James peters of Bend, Ore., and Timothy Peters of Hesperia, Calif.; a daughter, Janice Peters of Crestline, Calif.; a brother, Kenneth Peters, 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at marshfield City Cemetery in Marshfield, Mo., with the Rev. Curtis Richardson officiating.

Mary Farmer Aldinger of Afton died Friday, July 25, 2008, at her home. She was 66. Mrs. Aldinger was born Feb. 1, 1942, in Lantry, S.D., to Harry and Frieda (Schreier) Boke.
She lived in Pierce. Mo., City for many years where she had worked at the Creamy Cafe. In 1994, she married Bill Aldinger and moved to Afton where the couple operated Horse Creek Tack Shop. Mr. Aldinger also died July 25. Mrs. Aldinger was a member of the Cowboy Junction Church in Vinita. She is survived by two daughters, Darla Jess of Morrisville, Mo., and Denna Wilks of Purdy, Mo.; two sons, Alan Farmer of St. Louis and Paul Farmer of Louisburg, Kan.; two sisters, Joann Witt of Monett, Mo., and Joyce Bible of Stotts City, Mo., two brothers, Roy Boke of Springfield, Mo., and Danny Friend of Exeter, Mo., and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Gene Needham officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lakin Funeral Home in Pierce City. Burial has not yet been announced. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mary Farmer Aldinger memorial fund in care of the funeral home.
William Rodney Aldinger of Afton died Friday, July 25, 2008. He was 73. Mr. Aldinger was born Oct. 18, 1934, in York, Penn., to WM J. and Kathleen (Wilkinson) Aldinger.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Aldinger was a member of the Cowboy Junction Church in Vinita and a 50-year member of Local 520 Harrisburg, Penn., Plumbers and Pipe-fitter Union and Shiloh, Penn., American Legion Post 791. He had lived in Afton for 20 years, moving from York, Penn. Survivors include three daughters, Karen S. Warner and her husband Ed of Red Lion, Penn.; Sharon Miller and her husband Larry of Oswego, Kan., and Stacey L. Baugher and her husband Greg of Parsons, Kan.; a son, Bill Aldinger and his wife Tami of Oswego, Kan., and six grandchildren, Amy Warner, Abby and Todd Dise, Vickie Baugher, Cody Aldinger and Emily Aldinger.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Cowboy Junction Church in Vinita with Wade Markum officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Cowboy Junction Church. AFTON - An Ottawa County man and his wife died Friday in what sheriff officials believe was a murder suicide. The bodies of William Aldinger, 73, and his wife, Mary, 66, were found in a tack shop on their property just east of Afton on Oklahoma Highway 59, according to law enforcement reports.
Officials believe William Aldinger shot his wife once in the head and then turned the gun on himself. According to county reports, William Aldinger suffered two gunshot wounds. One to the chest and another to the head. Ottawa County Sheriff Terry Durborow said a call was dispatched to medical personnel at 6:10 p.m Friday in reference to an "unknown medical problem." Durborow said the dispatcher notified the sheriff's office of the call because the caller "seemed very upset"
County detectives and an investigator with the Oklahoma State Medical Examiners Office responded to the scene. Sheriff officials confirmed that the couple had a history of domestic disputes.

Wanda L. Cummings of Miami died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at her home following a lengthy illness. She was 63. She was born Dec. 31, 1944, in Phoenix, Ariz., to Boyd and Louise (Nance) Mason.
Mrs. Cummings had lived in Miami since 2005, coming from Roland. She had previously lived in Danville, Ark. She worked as the manager of the Route 66 Motel in Afton. Survivors include three daughters, Jeannette Mason and Kathleen Cummings of Miami and Michelle Mason of Catoosa; five brothers, Robert Mason of Grove, Don Mason of Albuquerque, N.M., Edwin Mason of Spring Grove, Penn., Hank Mason of Murphy's, Calif., and Ralph Mason of Anaheim, Calif., a sister, Darlene Saum of Anaheim and one grandson. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Foundation Freewill Baptist Church in Grove with chaplain Geoff Buffalo officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Adcock Funeral Home in Afton.

Mary Farmer Aldinger of Afton died Friday, July 25, 2008, at her home. She was 66. A memorial service will be held in her honor at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cowboy Junction Church in Vinita.
Longtime resident of Miami, Okla., Mr. James Brittain, 79, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2008 in Joplin, Mo. James was born to his family J.C. and Anna Dart Brittain on April 23, 1929, in Miami. He served his country faithfully in the U. S. Army.
James was a dispatcher for Consolidated Freightways for over 33 years at his retirement. He was also a firefighter in his younger years. On July 25, 1953, James took Miss Angie Boyd as his bride in Miami. They celebrated their 55th anniversary this month. James was a longtime and dedicated member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a member of the second milers' class. Although James is no longer with us, his memory and legacy will be kept alive through the family and friends he leaves behind which include: His wife Angie, of the home; one Daughter, Susie and her husband Bill Rowe of Joplin, Mo.; a Brother, John Brittain of Tulsa, Okla.; two Sisters, Janelle Damlougi of Laurel, Miss. and Joan and her husband Ray Metzger of Sperry, Okla.; two grandsons, Justin and his wife Chrissy Larsen of Springfield, Mo., and Andrew and his wife Madelaine Larsen of Biloxi, Miss., and two great-granddaughters, Kinnadee and Ella Larsen. A private family service has been scheduled. Services are under the direction of Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home.

Mary Lou Hopper passed away July 31, 2008, in Grove, Oklahoma. Mrs. Hopper was born on April 9, 1927 in Bluejacket to Lloyd and Esther Franklin Housh.
She married Coleman Hopper in 1957. They owned and operated the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Picher. She was a licensed practical nurse for many years working at Miami Baptist Hospital and home health care. Mrs. Hopper loved to travel and spent one year as a nurse working in Saudi Arabia. She lived in Fairland for many years and was a longtime member of Hudson Creek Baptist Church in Fairland. In her later years, she moved to Grove and joined the First Baptist Church. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed reading the Bible. She is preceded in death by her husband in 1973, sister Helen Taylor and brother Don Housh.
She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Matthews of Grove and Lorie Paslay and her husband Jim of Henryetta; five grandchildren, Colby Matthews and his wife Juli of Independence, Kan., Russ Matthews and his wife Susan of Springfield, Mo., and Erin, Emily and Courtney Paslay of Henryetta; six great-grandchildren, Caleb, Josh, and Jacob Matthews, Alex and Jon Matthews and Rylee Paslay, and one brother, Tom Housh and his wife Sharon of Miami. Services will be 10 a.m., Saturday at the Paul Thomas Chapel in Miami. Burial will be at the Fairland Cemetery Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.

Leonard Rosco "Rossâ" Cohen of Picher died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, in Joplin, Mo., after an illness. He was 78. Mr. Cohen was born July 3, 1930, in Seneca, Mo., to John Howard and Helen Edna (Chambers) Cohen. He lived in the Picher area since 1973, moving from Washington State.
He worked as a fruit picker traveling from Washington State to Missouri. He married Mary Ann Luther on June 22, 1987, in Washington. She survives, of the home. Additional survivors include three brothers, Larry Testerman of Hopkinsville, Ky., Robert Testerman of Miami and Bill Testerman of Jones; two sisters, Bev Moser of Edmond and Shirley Skaggs of Seneca; one stepdaughter, Dorothy Bennett of Baxter Springs, Kan.; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Baxter Springs, Kan., Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Picher.
Warren C. Guest of Miami died Friday, Aug 1, 2008, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami after a short illness. He was 71. Mr. Guest was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Chester, Pa., to Warren Sr. and Agnes (Baymore) Guest.
He was veteran of the Korean War and Vietnam War serving in the Army as a sergeant first class. He also served in occupied Germany during his tours. He was a member of Commerce Community Church, the Lions Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Columbus, Kan. He was married to Renata Oriani. She preceded him in death. He is preceded in death by an infant daughter, Jonette Guest, and his parents.
He later married Agnes Baymore. She survives, of the home. Additional survivors include two sons and their wives, Raymond and Regina Guest of Miami and Sirio and Michele Oriani of Marietta, Ga.; three daughters, Janet Sweet of Joplin, Mo., Gloria Norman of Charleston, S.C., and Betty Skeetoe of Houston, Texas; one brother, Herbert Guest of Commerce; one sister, Florence LaFlora of Miami, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. The Rev. Robert Rabel will officiate. Burial will be in Columbus Parks Cemetery in Columbus. The Army will provide military rites. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mendota Irene Scott of Miami died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at her home after a lengthy illness. She was 77. Mrs. Scott was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Quapaw to Charles and Lottie (Nonkesis) Dawes. She lived in the Miami and Quapaw area all of her life. She received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Tahlequah.
She was employed as a teacher by the Quapaw Public Schools for 16 years. She was a member of the National Educators Association and the Quapaw chapter of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of Spring River Indian Baptist Church. She married John D. Scott on Nov. 21, 1961, in California. He survives, of the home. Additional survivors include three sons, Donald E. Bessie Virginia Knight passed away Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, at her home in Miami. She was 90. Mrs. Knight was born April 13, 1918, in Commerce to Elisha and Lela Gilbert.
She graduated from Grove High School and later moved to Miami in 1942 to work as a seamstress at Patterson's during World War II. She met and married Ernest Paul Knight on Jan. 30, 1946. Mrs. Knight was a homemaker, seamstress and cook who loved her family and friends. She was a charter member of Bethany Christian Church and elder emeritus who served her church for more than 50 years. The importance of literacy and education for all people was a lifelong passion, and she was instrumental in forming the Literacy and Evangelism International program in Miami and volunteered as a tutor and tutor trainer for more than twenty-five years. She had a love for gardening that inspired her to work in the art of pressed flowers. Her flowers, real or pressed, were used to create beautiful floral arrangements as well as cards, pictures and other keepsakes for friends and loved ones. She also shared this talent by giving pressed flower demonstrations to many clubs and organizations.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995 and sister Margaret Tipton. She is survived by her children, Sherry and husband Jim Cummings of Weatherford, Paul Knight and his wife Junelle of Oklahoma City and Carla and her husband Mike Lillie of Miami; five grandchildren, Matthew Knight and his wife Misha of Oklahoma City, James Cummings and his wife Geraldine of Anadarko, Joshua Cummings of Weatherford, Vanessa Lillie of Washington, D.C, and Nathan Lillie of Stillwater and three great-grand children Malley and Mabrey Knight and Julianna Cummings. John L. Brock, longtime resident of Fairland, died at St. John's Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., Wednesday, July 30, 2008. He was 68. Mr. Brock was born Sep. 22, 1939, in Fairland, to Melvin and Anna (Whipkey) Brock. He graduated with the Fairland High School class of 1959.
He married Darlene Flint on Jan. 24, 1959, in Miami. She survives, of the home. He was preceded in death by his mother. Mr. Brock was a veteran, having served in the Air Force. He was a self-employed backhoe operator. He moved to Fairland in 1948, coming from Hickory Grove. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairland and the Masonic Frisco Lodge 24.
Additional survivors include: Two daughters, Jennifer Looper of Fairland and Angie White and her husband, Ron, of Fairland; his father, Melvin Brock, of Fairland; a brother and his wife, Gene and Brenda Brock of Fairland, a sister and her husband, Ruthie and Larry Boyd of Fairland and six grandchildren. Ray D. Coatney of Miami died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at the Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami after an illness. He was 92. Mr. Coatney was bornn Oct. 25, 1915, in Nowata to Norris and Annie (Wigger) Coatney. He had lived in Miami since 1946, moving from Nowata.
He served in the Marines during World War II. He had worked at Westco as a recapper for several years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Miami. He married Marie (Cowan) Coatney. She preceded him in death in 2003. Mr. Coatney was also preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother. Survivors include a son, Mike Coatney of String, Ark.; a daughter, Anne and her husband Bert Dresia of Miami, five grandchildren, Dale Dresia, Kenny Dresia, Lisa and Tim Kinion and Steve Coatney, and three great-grandchildren.

Merle Wendell Mathews (January 16, 1934 - July 29, 2008) Merle Wendell Mathews died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, following a long battle with lung cancer. He was 74. Mr Mathews was born to Elmer E. and Ella (Montgomery) Mathews in Delaware, Okla., on Jan. 16, 1934. He graduated from Commerce High School in 1952 and later from Okmulgee Technical School. He served with the Army during the Korean war. He retired from the Oklahoma City Metro Tech Dist. 22.
Mr. Mathews was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul W. Mathews. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Shirley (Miller) Mathews; a daughter, Paula Koellner and her husband Buddy Mark of Oklahoma City; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jenna Koellner of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Virginia Moudy of Okmulgee, and Norma Jean Shannon of Oklahoma City and a host of nieces and nephews. He had served as chaplain for the police and fire departments in Frankfort, Ky. Ronald Ray McMillan, 70, Wyandotte, OK, passed away Friday, August 1, 2008 at St. John's Medical Center, Joplin, MO following a lengthy illness. He was born November 13, 1937 in Bushnell, SD to Allan Roy McMillan and Mabel Alice Hendrickson McMillan. David Leroy Brodrick died Sunday, Aug. 3, 2008, after an extended illness. He was 58. Mr. Brodrick was born April 29, 1950, in Wyandotte to Mervin and Ila Brodrick. He attended school in Miami. He later lived in the Grove area.
He was a veteran of the Army, serving from 1969 to 1973 with two years of service in Germany. He held a number of jobs in and around the Grove area including driving a school bus for the Miami and Grove public schools and serving the Jay and Grove areas as a paramedic. He was also self-employed. He married Evelyn Lois Baty of Miami on Oct. 29, 1971. She survives. Additional survivors include one daughter and her husband, Sunni and David Porter of Grove; two sons, Jeremy Brodrick and wife Jennifer of Grove and Jeffrey Brodrick of Bartlesville; his mother, of Miami; one brother and his wife, Ivan and Kathy Brodrick of Miami; one sister and her husband, Diane and Jim Walker of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and three grandchildren, Emily and Megan Porter and Tucker Brodrick, all of Grove. He was preceded in death by his father.

Warren C. Guest, 71, of Miami, Okla., died Friday, Aug 1, 2008, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami after a short illness. He was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Chester, Pa., to Warren Sr. and Agnes (Baymore) Guest.
He served and retired from the United States Army as a sergeant first class, he was in both Korea and Vietnam, he also served in occupied Germany during his tours. He married Renata Oriani who preceded him in death. He was a member of the Commerce Community Church, the Lions Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Columbus, Kan. After the passing of his first wife, he married Berneice Christensen and she survives, of the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one infant daughter, Jonette Guest. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Raymond and Regina Guest of Miami and Sirio and Michele Oriani of Marietta, Ga.; three daughters, Janet Sweet of Joplin, Mo., Gloria Norman of Charleston, S.C., and Betty Skeetoe of Houston, Texas; one brother, Herbert Guest of Commerce; one sister, Florence LaFlora of Miami, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Joe Cephus Andrew of Cleveland, Ga., died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness. He was 83. Mr. Andrew was retired from the Army, 82nd Airborne having served in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
He was of the Christian faith. Donna Lou Miller of Bartlesville died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008. She was 82. Mrs. Miller was born Nov. 7, 1925, at Centralia to Omer and Mona (Newland) Hargrove. She graduated from Centralia High School in 1943. She moved to Bartlesville in 1951.

Shirley F. Parsons of Arlington, Texas, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at home. She was 75. She was born Shirley Ann Cook on Feb. 5, 1933, in Stinnett, Texas, to Thornley Ray and Erma Cook. She grew up in Miami, graduated from Northeastern Oklahoma State University in Tahlequah and earned a master's degree from the University of Colorado.
She taught English in the Denver Public School System and retired after many years. Tony Alan Wood of Fairland died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at his residence. He was 51.
Mr. Wood was born March 24, 1957, in Afton to William Donald and Jeanne (Wilson) Wood. He lived in the Ottawa County area most of his life except for 14 years he lived in Alabama. He was a 1975 graduate of Miami High School. He worked for B.F. Goodrich in Miami and in Tuscaloosa, Ala., until his retirement in 1998.

John Harrison Dalgarn of Miami died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Mo. He was 82. Mr. Dalgarn was born May 3, 1926, in Eufaula to John and Firsey (Mitchell) Dalgarn.
He had lived in Miami since 1985, moving from Bartlesville. He was a retired school teacher and had finished his career in the Bartlesville Public School System. Mr. Dalgarn was a World War II and Korean War veteran, having serving in the Army. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of the American Legion, Mulvane Masonic Lodge, Witchita Scottish Rite Consistory and Miadian Shrine Temple in Wichita. Kan. He married Mary Haner on Nov. 24, 1948, in Fort Smith, Ark. She survives, of the home.
Additional survivors include a son, John Dalgarn and his wife Joyce of Miami, and two grandsons, John Dalgarn Jr. of Miami and Joe Dalgarn of Pittsburg, Kan. Mr. Pyle was born in Rockford, IL, on April 26, 1950, to Mikey and Marion (Hammond) Pyle. He was a retired copper miner, having worked for the San Manuel Mining Co., in Arizona.
He married Sandra J. Goodwin on July 25, 1980, in Tucson, AZ. She survives, of the home. He is also survived by a son and his wife, Nicholas and Geri Pyle of Ft. George A. Lytle died July 3, 2008, in a motorcycle accident in Dallas, Texas. He was 64. Mr. Lytle was born Oct. 26, 1943, in Miami. He was the son of Fred and Leaner Lytle of Miami. He attended Miami schools, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami and graduated from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. He lived in Tulsa, New Mexico and later in Texas.
He taught school in Tulsa for many years and retired from Will Rogers High School. Survivors include three children, Gary, Greg and Melanie, and sister, Velenta of Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services were held July 9 in Dallas with cremation following.
Cathie Lynn Pryor of Chanute, Kan., died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was 41. Mrs. Pryor was born March 23, 1967, in Bartlesville.
She was an algebra teacher at Chanute High School. She married Randy Pryor on Aug. 18, 1990, in Claremore. He survives, of the home. Additional survivors include two sons, Zachary and Nicholas Pryor; her father, LeRoy Collins of Miami; her mother, Stephanie Snow of Chanute, and one brother, Gary Collins of Claremore. Karen Lynn Stotts of Miami died Sunday, Aug. 10, 2008, at her home. She was 55. Mrs. Stotts was born Nov. 8, 1952, in Miami to Lee and Edna (LaFalier) Lester. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1971 and attended beauty college. She lived in the area most of her life.
She was a homemaker and a day care provider. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. She married Gerald Eugene Stotts on May 5, 1972, in Miami. He survives, of the home. Additional survivors include one daughter, Carrie Ruth Stotts of Chetopa, Kan.; one brother, Steve Lester of Miami, and one sister, Judy Davis of Miami. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Homer 'Hap' L. Holden (December 06, 1932 - August 17, 2008) Homer "Hap" L. Holden of rural Fairland died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at his home. He was 75. Mr. Holden was born Dec. 6, 1932, in Byron to Harry and Corda (Flowers) Holden. He moved to Fairland in 1995, coming from Wichita, Kan.
He was a veteran of the Navy and then the Marines. He worked as a carpenter with Hazard Construction in California and then as a spares planner with Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairland, the Fairland American Legion and the Fairland Senior Citizens. He married Mary Iverson on June 7, 1984, in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives, of the home. Additional survivors include two sons, Robert Holden of Saugus, Calif., and Steven Holden of Chula Vista, Calif.; two stepsons, Steven Young of Ocala, Fla., and Michael Young of Camdenton, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Darlene Castellana of Olivenhain, Calif.; one brother, Bill Holden of Argonia, Kan.; four sisters, Harriet Blakely of Oklahoma City, Rowena Watkins of Springfield, Mo., and Thelma Brumley and Ruby Rogers, both of Wichita, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was employed by Willowcrest Hospital. She and her husband owned and operated Long Branch Saloon in Quapaw. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Quapaw. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Stevens; her parents; her stepfather, Blanchard Floyd McKibben, and one brother, Floyd Douglas McKibben. Survivors include one son, Robert Eugene Shelton II of Wyandotte; three daughters, Tonya M. Barnes of Miami, Misty Dawn Beattie of Peoria and Christy Jean Burrow of Miami; one stepdaughter, Kimberly K. Pease of Chetopa, Kan.; three brothers, Joe Junior McKibben and Curtis Lee McKibben, both of Quapaw, and Charles Ray McKibben of North Miami; one half brother, Blanchard Floyd McKibben III of Quapaw; three sisters, Delores Lucille Grube, Gay Lynn McKibben and Tony Elizabeth Torres, all of Quapaw, 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kirk was born May 18, 1934, in N.C. She moved to the Broken Arrow Nursing Home on Feb. 9, 1998. She was crowned nursing home queen.
She worked in a ladies apparel store in Miami and went to work at Bama Pie in 1980. She and her husband adopted her nephew, James, in 1980 following her brother's death. She married Charles Don Kirk in 1953. He preceded her in death in August, 1995. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Broken Arrow Nursing Home. Bob Zigmont will officiate. He was a charter member of Trinity Southern Baptist Church in Afton and served as music director for 23 years. He married Hazel Tipton on Aug. 21, 1955, at Afton. She survives of the home. Forest enlisted in the United States Air Force on Aug. 16, 1941. He served four years and was trained in aircraft armor maintenance. He proudly served during World War II and was honorably discharge on Sept. 12, 1945. Forest resided in Fairland from 1952 until 1976. He then moved to Miami where he remained until December of 2007, relocating to Grove. He was active with the Northeastern Military Burial Detail since 1987, serving as chaplain. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion where he also served as chaplain as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Miami, Okla. He was a member of the Forty and Eight Chef De Guar and a member of the Hudson Creek Baptist Church. Forest was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Twyla May Lacey, who died on Aug. 7, 1947.

Harold Victor Knight of Vinita died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at his home. He was 94. Mr. Knight was born March 22, 1914, in Ellsworth, Kan., to Victor L. and Mary (Davis) Knight.
He was a World War II veteran of the Army. He raised cattle. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and was an active member of Timberhill Church of Christ. He married Alice Josephine Foxworthy on Sept. 5, 1945, in Girard, Kan. She survives, of the home. Additional survivors include two sons and their wives, Harold L. and Carole Knight and Terry and Dianna Knight, all of Pryor; four daughters and their husbands, Peggy Edgar of California, Jeannie and Larry Martin of Pryor, Betty and Jeff Couch of Fort Smith, Ark., and Vicki and Larry Timmerman of Mannford, and several grandchildren.

On July 18, 1940, she married William Deems in Baxter Springs, Kan. He survives, of the home. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Miami and was a homemaker. Mrs. Deems is preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Dalton Perkins. Additional survivors include two daughters: Elaine Irvin of Miami and Jan Babbitt and her husband Virgil of Liberty, Mo; three grandchildren, Traci Irvin, Sean Babbitt and Kimberly Triplett and her husband Rob, and two great grandchildren: Zachary and Dulcie Babbitt.
He owned and operated a wholesale nursery for many years. He married Bessie May Coulson on July 2, 1956, in Miami. She survives, of the home. He was preceded in death by two children, Linda May Replogle and Nathan Leon Jones, and one brother David Lee Jones.
Ed, as most people know him, received his education in Hughesville, Penn. At age 19, he joined the United States Air Force and served for 20 years. He was a T/sgt. with the North American Air Defense Command Headquarters. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked for the Army and Air Force Exchange until 1993 when he retired the second time. Ed was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wheaton, Ancorage Masonic Lodge No. 17, Al Aska Shrine Temple, American Legion, the Scottish Rite and the 40 and 8 club. Survivors include his loving wife, Dorothy, of the home; two sons, Harley E. Minnier Jr. of Fairview, Mo., and Allan J. Minnier Jr.; three stepgrandchildren, George Raybin, Mark Raybin and Lori Pruitt; one great-granddaughter, Tierney Sky Garrison; one step great-granddaughter, Jade Pruitt; one brother, Robert Minnier of Montoursville, Penn., and three sisters, Esther Johnson of Warren, Ohio, Alfreda Sones and June Walsh both of Hughesville, Penn. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Marguerite (Scheffler) Minnier; a brother, Harley Eugene Minnier; a sister, Gladys coleman and a great-grandson, Evan Olan Garrison.
She moved to Afton in 1983, coming from Tulsa. She attended the First Assembly of God Church. She married David White on October 11, 1982, in Tulsa. He survives, of the home. Additional survivors include three sisters, Deborah Lopez of Reno, Nev, Cheryle Humbert of Neosho, Mo, and Carol Ann Hart of Tulsa, and a brother, Kenneth E. Doty Jr. She was preceded in death by her father and mother. Services will be 11 a.m., Monday at First Assembly of God Church in Afton with the Rev. Ron Allen officiating.
She worked for the government as an inventory clerk for several years before retiring. She was a homemaker. She was an active member of the ladies auxiliary and Liberty Baptist Church of Miami. She married Virgil Waybright on Aug. 17, 1940, in Miami. He survives. Additional survivors include two daughters, Judy Allen of Commerce and Marcie Campbell of Quapaw; one brother, William McClintic of Miami; one sister, Pat Betts of Hutchinson, Kan.; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and two sisters. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Liberty Baptist Church in Miami. Pastor Brad Jinks will officiate.
She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone as an operator. She was a member of Laur Alpha Sigma Sorority, First Church of God in Miami and Church Women United. She married Oran Fluke on Sept. 1, 1956, in Miami. He survives, of the home. Additional survivors include one son and his wife, Kent and Ronda Fluke of Dover; two daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Bijan Niavarani of Edmond and Natasha and Jeff Niece of Ingleside, Ill.; one sister, Waunita Fair of Mustang, and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister and one brother.
He was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was postmaster in Picher for 17 years and worked many years in the Picher Post Office. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Picher. He married Eunice Smith on Oct. 9, 1942. She preceded him in death on Jan. 19, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Merl Carlin, Kenny Carlin and Gabriel Carlin.
She was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, Felix Rosado of Jordan, Minn., and Felipe Rosado of Cobden, Minn.; one daughter, Marysol Rosado of Miami; six brothers, Richard, Ruben, Manuel, Sabino and Pablo Yzquierdo, all of San Antonio, Texas, and Juan Jose Yzquierdo of Milwaukee, Wis.; three sisters, Patricia Alvarez and Norma Lopez of San Antonio and Armandina Benavides of Los Angeles, Calif., and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.
He was a veteran of the Army. He had worked for Searl Mechanical in Tulsa. He was of the Assembly of God faith. His wife, Barbara Crites, preceded him in death on Aug. 25, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gene Searl and Howard Searl; three sisters, Carolyn Tanner, Barbara Rusher and Lavetta Fatrick, and one great-grandson.

Yong Ye Bunce of Quapaw died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami after an illness. She was 74. Mrs. Bunce was born Dec. 29, 1933, in Seoul, South Korea. She lived in the Quapaw area for 43 years.
She was a homemaker and a member of Quapaw First Assembly of God Church. She married Russell Bunce in 1965 in Seoul. He survives, of the home. Additional survivors include one son, Ernie Allen Bunce of Quapaw; one sister, Kwak Kum Duc of South Korea, and three grandchildren, Marcus Bunce, Rusty Bunce and Elicia Bunce. She was preceded in death by one son, Rusty Bunce in 1990.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home of Picher. The Rev. William Webber will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Grimes, Charlrick Horn, Tom Burrows, Jerry Kibel, Wayne Bunce and Ernie Bunce. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Frances Holderman Miller of Miami died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Grand Lake Villa in Grove after a short illness. She was 92. Ms. Miller was born Jan. 17, 1916, in Pryor. She moved from Chouteau to Miami. She received her teaching certificate from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah.
She taught high school English in Chouteau. In Miami, she taught eighth grade science until her retirement in the late 1970s. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Miami for many years. She married J.C. Miller on May 13, 1939, at Claremore. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Owen Matthew Hardy. Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Dianne and Richard Hardy of Anderson, S.C. Private services will be with the immediate family. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Pryor.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. Memorials are suggested to the Miami Public Schools Enrichment Foundation, 26 North Main, Miami, OK 74354.
James Lee Smith of Miami died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at his home. He was 49. Mr. Smith was born March 28, 1959, in Dallas, Texas, to Beverly (Short) Speers. He lived in the Miami and Wyandotte area for 30 years.
He was a self-employed welder. He was of the Baptist faith. He married Mary Turner on July 14, 1985, in Wyandotte. She survives, of the home. Additional survivors include one son, Jonathan Smith of Miami; one daughter, Beverly Smith, of the home, and his mother, of Miami. He was preceded in death by his father, Logan Lee Smith, and his brother, Jonathan Mack LaFon. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Debbie L. Bond Bond, Debbie L. Carpenter Hicks (December 15, 1956 - August 24, 2008) Debbie L. Bond of Miami died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa after a sudden illness. She was 51. Mrs. Bond was born Dec. 15, 1956, in Martinsville, Ind., to Bill and Rose Mary (Day) Carpenter. She moved to Miami in 1993, coming from Tuscaloosa, Ala.
She worked in maintenance with the Miami Housing Authority. She married Corbie Bond on Aug. 14, 1989, in Tuscaloosa. He survives, of the home. Additional survivors include one son, Nehemiah Joel Hicks of Martinsville, Ind.; two stepsons, Scott Bond of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jason Bond of Pascagoula, Miss.; three stepdaughters, Jacqueline Jeudice of Broken Arrow, Regina Sheridan of Carrollton, Texas, and Corbie Jean Faddy of Moundville, Ala.; five sisters, Pam Breedlove, Becky Whedon, Janet Vermillion, Carol Mackinson and Julie Hayden, all of Martinsville, and 12 grandchildren. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fairland Cemetery. The Rev. Carole Minter will officiate.

Mr. Price was born July 28, 1924, in Cleveland, Okla., to Thomas and Lula (Smallwood) Price. He lived in North Miami prior to moving to Quapaw four years ago. He was a World War II veteran of the Navy and saw action in New Guinea. He worked in the construction industry throughout his life. He was affiliated with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Baptist faith. He married Edna Brock on Oct. 5, 1946, in Columbus, Kan. She survives.
Additional survivors include four sons, Gary Price of Quapaw, Russell Price of Riverton, Kan., and Roger Price and Dwight Price, both of who live on Price Hill in Ottawa County; two daughters, Charlene Carver of Baxter Springs, Kan., and Lora Pierce of Quapaw; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Arrangements will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Abbott Funeral Home chapel in Baxter Springs. Tim Warren will officiate. Burial will be in Lowell (Kan.) Cemetery. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. She was 42. Mrs. Burkybile-Moss was born March 8, 1966, in Kellogg, Idaho. She graduated from Welch High School and received an associate's degree from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami. She lived in Bluejacket for nine months, moving from Commerce.
She worked as a lab tech for Fisher Scientific Inc. since 1987. She was a member of North Miami Assembly of God Church. Wanda Mae Baldwin Baldwin, Wanda Mae Nichols (October 26, 1922 - August 31, 2008) Wanda Mae Baldwin died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at St. John's Medical Center in Tulsa following a short illness. She was 85. Mrs. Baldwin was born Oct. 26, 1922, in Miami to Damon Clay and Ola Mae (Hanna) Nichols. She lived in the Miami area until moving to Grove in 1965. She moved to Tulsa in 2006.
She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church in Grove. She married John Forrest Baldwin Jr. on April 2, 1943. He survives, of the home. Additional survivors include two sons, John Damon Baldwin of Tulsa and Steven Baldwin of Grove; one daughter, Stephanie Baldwin of Tulsa; one sister, Georgia Stanley Bowen of Rogers, Ark.; four grandchildren, Jacque Ann Schulze, Christopher Steven Baldwin, Ike Damon Baldwin and Emily Kate Baldwin, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.

Survivors include two daughters, Jackie Robinson of Miami, and Lee Patton of Miami; one sister, Walsie Aday of Miami, and three grandsons, Chris Robinson, Michael Robinson and Brandon Vanderree.

Irma Lee Abbott Abbott, Irma Lee Adams (November 25, 1937 - August 28, 2008) Irma Lee Abbott of Brookings, S.D., died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at the Brookings Health System after an illness. She was 70. Mrs. Abbott was born Nov. 25, 1937, in Miami to Frank B. and Lucille (Collins) Adams. She moved to South Dakota in 2001.
She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church and was a cook at Rancho Restaurant in Commerce. She was married to Dwight Abbott. He preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Harold Gene Abbott of Bentonville, Ark.; two daughters, Carolyn Navarre and Julia Diane Pewo; one sister, Mary Ellen of Locust Grove, 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Services were 2 p.m. Tuesday at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami. Carl Greenfeather and Josh Bear officiated.

Eudora Darland Darland, Violet Eudora Hill (December 13, 1929 - September 01, 2008) Violet Eudora Darland of Miami died Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami after an illness. She was 78. Mrs. Darland was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Daisy, Tenn., to John D. and Flora Thelma (Gardner) Hill. She lived in the Narcissa and Vinita area, moving to Miami in 1993.
She was a school teacher for 25 years, teaching for many years in the Vinita School System. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Miami, the Retired Teachers' Association and Women on Mission at First Baptist Church. She married Charles Darland on Sept. 17, 1951, in Kingston. He survives, of the home. Additional survivors include one son and his wife, Daniel Charles and Vickie Darland of Hillsboro, Mo.; three daughters and their husbands, Dr. Rebecca Darland of Festus, Mo., Patricia and Jim Barnes of Gentry, Ark., and Shirley and Chuck Hudson of Big Cabin; one brother, John Hill of Denison, Texas; one sister, Patricia Randolph of Kingsland, Texas, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He later became a full-time cattle and turkey rancher. He married Dorene Wanzer in 1952. She married Jack Howard Vanatta in November, 1941. He preceded her in death in November, 1980. She was also preceded in death by her parents.
