Barr, Dwane

Dwane Barr

Dwane Barr of Chetopa, Kan., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Mo. He was 66.

Mr. Barr was born April 5, 1941, in Craig County to Arthur and Nadine Elouse (Wiley) Barr. He graduated from Chetopa High School and continued his education at Parsons, Kan., Junior College for one year.

He farmed and raised livestock most of his life and also fed cattle for many years. He was part owner of the Barr Lumber Company in Chetopa. His ultimate dream was realized when oil was discovered on his land.

Survivors include his mother, of Chetopa; one sister and her husband, Janice and Joe Wright of Welch; one nephew and wife, Joe Bob and Elizabeth Wright of Miami, and two great-nephews, Bart Wright and Drew Wright.

He was preceded in death by his father; one nephew, Bart Wright, and one great-nephew, Nathan Wright.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.

Memorials are suggested to the Chetopa FFA in care of the funeral home.

Dixon, Oscar Willard Gene

Oscar Willard Gene' Dixon

(November 19, 1919 - January 15, 2008)
Oscar Willard Gene Dixon of Vinita died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at Craig General Hospital. He was 88.

Mr. Dixon was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Bluejacket to Clarence Edward and Clara Alberta (Kenndwalhy) Dixon. He attended school north of Bluejacket at what was known as the Old Dixon Schoolhouse. He attended one year at Vinita High School and graduated from Bluejacket in 1939. He later lived in Denver, Colo., for several years before returning to the Vinita area.

He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp where he served for six and a half years.

He worked for Pete and Charles Hough Creamery for eight years and retired from CL Supply after20 years. Gene accepted the Lord at the early age of nine and was baptized in an area creek. He was a member of the Trinity Baptist Church of Vinita and of the adult men's Bible class.

He married Dorothy Green on Sept. 3, 1948, in Vinita. She survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include seven sons and their wives, Ronnie Dixon, Jack Dixon, Roger Dixon, John and Tawannah Dixon, Greg and Becky Dixon, Rick and Sharon Dixon of Vinita and Curtis Dixon of Gulfport, Miss., 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ethel Mae Trantham, Eva Marie Banks, Carol Ester Hudson and Lana Bell Dixon, and three brothers, Dempsey Dixon, Joseph Dixon and Jimmy Dixon.

Services were 11 a.m. today at Trinity Baptist Church. Pastor Ryan Goodrich officiated. Burial was in Pheasant Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Shawn Dixon, Erick Dixon, Severin Dixon, Dustin Dixon, Doug Dixon and William Dixon.

Arrangements are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Service of Vinita.

Grayson, June R.

June R. Grayson

(June 14, 1918 - January 15, 2008)
June R. Grayson of Colorado Springs, Colo., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at Colorado Springs, Colo. She was 89.

June was born June 14, 1918, in Picher, Okla., to Lewis E. and Mary L. (Brooks) Grayson.

She worked for 25 years for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in Oklahoma City where she was the administrator for foreign students. She retired in 1972.

After her retirement she moved to Enid, Okla., where she was busy in volunteer work for the American Red Cross Disaster Unit. She received several awards from the Red Cross for her service in national disasters.

She loved to garden, play bridge, but most of all to cook for her family. She won several cooking contests but, most importantly, she was a two time winner of the Pillsbury Bake Off contest.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Mary Grayson, and four brothers, Jack, Richard, Frank and Clifford Grayson.

Survivors include two brothers, Robert Grayson of Tulsa, Okla., and Charles Grayson of Colorado Springs, Colo., and several loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Okla.

Pallbearers will be Charles Grayson, John Grayson, Kelly Grayson, Craig Anderson, Bob Grayson and Bud Grayson.

Services will be under the direction of the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, Okla.

Floyd J. Barker Jr. of Baxter Springs, Kan., died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2008, at Quaker Hill Manor in Lowell, Kan. He was 84.

Mr. Barker was born March 24, 1923, to Floyd J. and Eva (Grazier) Barker Sr.

He married Margaret Elizabeth Decker on June 15, 1942, in Burlington, Kan. She preceded him in death.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Daisy Katon and Sue Adams, and one grandson, Wes Barnett.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Ellis of Riverton, Kan., and Carol Barnett and husband Raymond of Quapaw; one sister, Mary Green Feather of Baxter Springs; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Baxter Springs. Burial will be in Lowell Cemetery.

Enola M. Jones of Miami died Monday, Jan. 21, 2008, at the Miami Nursing Center after an illness. She was 92.

Mrs. Jones was born March 1, 1915, in Fairland to Robert H. and Etta (Franklin) Wilmoth. She lived in Ottawa County all of her life.

She worked as a seamstress for 40 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Miami.

Survivors include one son and his wife, Don and Pat Jones of Miami; one brother and his wife, Bill and Joan Wilmoth of Miami; two sisters, Louise Pennington and Reba Martin, both of Miami; three grandchildren and their spouses, Mitch and Julee Jones of Jenks, Brad and Terry Jones of Broken Arrow and Vicki and Curt Donnell of Miami, and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lloyd Wilmoth, and two sisters, Sybil Crow and Ireva Stoner.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church in Miami.

The Rev. Raymond Frizzelle will officiate.

Burial will be in Fairland Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be David Wilmoth, Tim Wilmoth, Jerry Wilmoth, Troy Wilmoth, Bill Wilmost and Kyndal Wilmoth.

Billy Joe Culver of Grove died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo., after an illness. He was 66.

Mr. Culver was born Jay 18, 1941, in Fairfax to Leonard and Nancy (Sumpter) Culver. He lived in Grove since 1949, moving from Gentry, Ark.

He retired from B.F. Goodrich after 30 years. He was of the Methodist faith, was a lifetime blood donor, a volunteer for Lions, Toys for Tots and Wyandotte Tribe Turtle Tots.

He married Pat Crafton on Sept. 17, 1999, in Seneca, Mo. She survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include one son, David Culver of Oklahoma City; one daughter and her husband, Carol and Greg Thurman of Wyandotte; three stepchildren, Daniel Carlin of Joplin and Dennis Carlin Jr. and Sheona Moore, both of Grove one brother, Curtis Culver of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Betty Culver of Pawhuska and Evelyn Faulkner of Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren, Austin Winkler and Joseph Thurman, and 14 stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and foster parents; two brothers, John and Eddie, and one sister, Judy Turnage.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami.

The Rev. Jackie Crafton will officiate.

Burial will be in Wyandotte Cemetery.

Jeb DeHanas of Mountain View, Ark., died Friday, Jan. 18, 2008, at his home. He was 52.

He lived most of his life in Ottawa County. He graduated with honors from Oklahoma State Tech in Okmulgee, Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami, Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and completed his master's degree at Pittsburg (Kan.) State University.

He recently retired from NEO, where he taught math and electronics for almost 25 years. He was active in the Ottawa County Civil Defense, storm spotters and HAM radio clubs.

Survivors include one sister, Mary Faith, and one nephew, Jeff Marshall.

He was cremated at his wish.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m Saturday at the Ottawa Tribal building, located at the Ottawa Cemetery, east of Miami.

Charles Ed Edwin Drumm Sr. died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at Integris Grove General Hospital. He was 85.

Mr. Drumm was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Garland, Texas, to Samuel and Louella (Coyle) Drumm. He was a longtime resident of Oklahoma.

He was a World War II veteran of the Army, serving as a Tech 5.

He worked as a truck driver in the oilfields and in the pest control business. He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, VVA, and the Purple Hearts Association.

He was married to Mattie Viola (Stoker) Drumm for 65 years. She survives, of Grove.

Additional survivors include three sons and their wives, Charles E. and Claire Drumm Jr. of Woodbridge, VA., Earl Ray and Jennifer Drumm of Grove and Richard Wayne and Dana Drumm of Chouteau; one brother, Woodrow Drumm of Morgan, Texas, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and eight brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grove Elks Lodge, located 2 1/2 miles south of Grove.

She married William Dave Bill Dick on Oct. 6, 2007, in Miami. He survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Christanie and Bill Lynn of Noble, Sherrie Cameron and Jennifer and Jimmy Chamness of Hayworth; one stepson and wife, Andy and Brenda Dick of Moore; her mother and stepfather, Elizabeth and Clifford Frye of Chelsea; two sisters, Joyce Hayes and husband Brad of White Oak and Melisa Frye of Arlington, Ga.; three brothers and their wives, Michael and Eydie McClure and Dewayne Frye of Claremore and Leroy and Michelle Frye of Chelsea, and seven grandchildren, Brandon, Bryan, Jonathan and Joshua Dick, Kara H. Lynn, Anthony Lynn and Joey Lynn.

She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents.

She was a nurse at Integris Baptist Regional Health Center in Miami for 28 years before retiring. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America in Texas.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Jim and George Anne Rhodes of Menifee, Calif., Jerry and Debbie Rhodes and Stephen and Nancy Rhodes, all of Wichita Falls, and Charlie and Wanda Rhodes of Quapaw; two daughters, Linda Whitt and husband Paul of Eagletown and Joyce Sherwood of Wichita Falls; one sister, Freda Halpain of Marble Falls, Texas, 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Patricia Arznipou; one son, Don Rhodes, and one brother, Fred McCord.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Bluejacket Cemetery, east of Bluejacket.

Survivors include two sons, William Webber of Commerce and Eddie Webber of Carl Junction, Mo.; three daughters, Earlene Watkins of Lowell, Kan., Wilma McBee of Jai, N.M., and Carol Redden of North Miami; one brother, John Bunch of Texas; two sisters, Mable Hughes of Arvada, Colo., and Mae Nieville of Loveland, Colo.; 29 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the First Assembly of God Church in Quapaw.

She married Jim B. Lyle in 1986 in Coeur D Alene, Idaho. He survives, of the home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include a son, Michael Norman and his wife Pam of Troy, Mont.; four stepdaughters, Teresa Johnson and her husband Rod of Troy, Mont., Becky Lilly of Ellensburg, Wash., Brenda Orr of Troy, Mont., and Shana Lyle of Arma, Kan.,; four brothers, five sisters, 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Erwin G. Schaefer

Longtime resident of Fairland, Oklahoma, Mr. Erwin G. Schaefer went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday evening, January 23, 2008.

Erwin was born in Fairland, Oklahoma, to his parents, Charles F. and Dorathea Rubin Schaefer on November 4, 1913. At the time of his passing, he was 94 years old.

He married Anna M. Steffes on Feb. 27, 1938. Erwin and Anna were blessed with 8 children. He was a lifelong and faithful member of the St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Fairland, Oklahoma. He served his church and faith by holding positions of Elder and Trustee for many years. He loved taking walks and enjoyed nature. He also loved to sing and watch his daughters play their guitar when they were young. He was a wonderful father and grandfather. He was a career farmer and rancher in the Fairland area most of his adult life and was greatly respected by all. Erwins greatest loves were his Lord, his family and church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 62 years, Anna; an infant son, Erwin Schafer Jr., two brothers and two sisters. Surviving are three sons, Harold and wife Jackie of Muskogee, Okla., Bill and wife Patty of Fairland, Okla., and Melvin and wife Doris of Yukon, Okla., and four daughters, Elizabeth and husband Ed Short of Cabool, Mo., Mary and husband Michael Londe of Joplin, Mo., Della and husband Buddy Oakley of Fairland, Okla, and Martha and husband Patrick Stark of Rock Springs, Wyo.; a sister, Laura Schaefer of Quapaw, Okla., and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives, friends and neighbors.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 28,2008, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church of Fairland, Oklahoma, with Rev. Leo Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow the service at St. Pauls Cemetery in Fairland, Okla. The family greeted friends for visitation on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Services are under the direction of the Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miami, Okla.

David M. Henderson

David M. Henderson died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, after battling with cancer. He was 67.

Mr. Henderson was born Aug. 5, 1930, in rural Columbus, Kan., to Walter and Emma (McMahan) Henderson. He grew up in Columbus and graduated from West Mineral High School.

He was a veteran of the Air Force, having served four years in Limestone, Maine.

He worked at B.F. Goodrich in Miami for 30 years, retiring when the plant closed.

Survived include his wife, Emily; four children and their spouses, Cristie and Kim Boulware of Cherokee, Kan., Don Henderson of Grove, Ron and Ellen Henderson of Ventura, Calif., and Randy and Sara Henderson of Holden, Mo., and 13 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. The Rev. Carol Holden and Chaplain Darwin King will officiate. Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Al Pharris, Fred Conway, Rick Littlefield, Howard Scofield, Paul Elrod and Henry Frellick.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Kathryn Katy Mills died Friday, Feb. 1, 2008. She was 82.

Survivors include her husband, Irwin W. Mills; two daughters and their husbands, Tish and Tom Wick of St. Louis, Mo., and Debbie and Marty Siler of Overland Park, Kan.; a step-son and his wife, Gary and Donna Mills of Enid; a step-daughter and her husband, Nancy and Robert Van Houtan, Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Mary Sasseen of Boston, Mass., and Judy Barrow of Marshfield,. Mo.; a brother, Jack Morris of Wichita, Kan.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, G. Ronald Tyler; a step-son, Randall Allen Mills, and a sister, Margaret Hightower.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central Christian Church in Wichita, Kan.

Services are under the direction of the Old Mission Mortuary in Wichita.

Mary Ann Culver died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, in Tulsa. She was 69.

Mrs. Culver was born Sept. 23, 1938, in Tulsa to Chester and May Crawford. She grew-up in Baxter Springs, Kan., and lived in Miami for the past 50 years.

Mary was a hard worker. She sold real estate for a time, was a clerk at Piggley Wiggley Grocery Store and managed the front desk at Super 8 Motel.

She married Jerry Culver on May 23, 1959, in Picher. He survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include two sons, Jerry Culver Jr. of Tahlequah and Cary Kyle and his wife Elaina of Claremore; two sisters and their husbands, Dorothy and Joe Hudson of San Antonio, Texas, and Clara and Alan Wassom of Baxter Springs; one brother and his wife, Donnie and Deborah Crawford of Edmond, and two grandsons, Nakota Nash and Kohlten Wolfe Culver of Claremore.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Lowell Crawford.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home. The Rev. Tim Warren will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.

Arthur William Epperson

Arthur William Epperson of Timberhill died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2008, at the Muskogee Veterans Administration Hospital after a long illness. He was 63.

Mr. Epperson was born Nov. 23, 1944, in Miami to Henry Robert and Willie Francis (Ferguson) Epperson. He was a veteran of the Army and served during the Vietnam War.

He was a mechanic and enjoyed cooking and fishing.

Mr. Epperson is survived by four children, Penny Mae Abraham of Tulsa, Barbara Denise Schmitt of Bluejacket, William Wayne Epperson of Bluejacket and Arthur Robert Epperson of Vinita; a brother, Eddie Leon Epperson of Indianapolis, Ind., 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday at the Timberhill Baptist Church with the Rev. Herb Stelle and the Rev. Roy Shoop officiating. Interment will be at Bluejacket Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Kenneth Greenwood, John Beisley, John Osborne, Allen Walker, Ray Brown and Randy Greenwood. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Brown and Jack Gearhart.

The family will greet visitors from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Thomas Funeral Home in Welch.

Rush Prater

Heaven's Gates were open wide when longtime resident of Miami, Oklahoma, Mr. Rush Prater, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at his home in Miami.

Rush was born March 26, 1941, in Harris, Oklahoma, to his parents Earl and Erna Prater.

On Oct. 20, 1962, Rush took Miss Linda Olds as his bride in Commerce, Oklahoma. Rush and Linda have made Miami their home for over 43 years.

Rush retired from Goodrich Tire Company with over 20 years of service. He and Linda currently own and operate Prater Sealing and Striping. Rush's favorite hobby was to work. He enjoyed cutting wood; they say the Prater's family bloodline has sawdust in it. The only thing Rush enjoyed more than work was sharing the Gospel of his savior, Jesus Christ. You could find him on the weekends at the Mall, sharing. You might see him on the street corner or walking the neighborhoods sharing the hope that he himself found in Jesus.

Rush's legacy can be found in the lives of his family that he loved so much. His son Travis and daughter-in-law Billi Jo and their children will carry the torch of Rush's impartation of his faith. What more can be said of a man than that he raised up his family in the love and admiration of the Lord. Rush was a true success in life.

Although he is no longer with us, his memory will always be kept alive through his family and friends he leaves behind which include:

His wife Linda of 45 years of marriage; one son, Travis Prater and daughter-in-law Billie Jo Prater of Miami, Oklahoma; two sisters, Becky and husband Denny Johnson of Miami, Oklahoma, and Mary and husband Dennis Lewis of Miami, Oklahoma; four brothers: Melvin and wife Helen Prater of Fairland, Oklahoma, Don and wife Norma Prater of Wyandotte, Oklahoma, Ken and wife Lola of West Seneca, Oklahoma, and Danny Prater of Grand Prairie, Texas, and three grandchildren, Leanna, Liberty and Roxanna Prater, all of Miami, Oklahoma.

Rush is preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Helen Ellis, Martha Mrosek and Etna Prater.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at Cutting Edge Ministries Church in Miami, Oklahoma. Pastor Monroe Cole will officiate the services. Interment will follow the service at Seneca Cemetery.

Services are under the care and direction of Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miami, Oklahoma.

Stephen Charles Cloud of Eucha died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, at his home. He was 57.

Mr. Cloud was born Jan. 25, 1951, in Saginaw, Mich., to John and Arlene (Maue) Cloud.

He worked for many years manufacturing Cobra cars.

Survivors include his wife, Susan, of the home; three daughters, Amber and Stephanie Cloud of South Dakota and Tana Holt of Jay; two sons, Stephen Cloud of California and David Dye of Tulsa; his parents; three brothers, John Cloud, Doug Cloud and Robert Cloud, and three sisters, Barbara Cloud, Penny Cloud and Marilyn Cloud.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Greg Cloud.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Paul Wayne Mathews died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, in Amarillo, Texas. He was 85.

Mr. Mathews was born March 1, 1922, in Seneca, Mo. He lived in Skellytown since 1947, moving to Amarillo two years ago.

He was a World War II veteran of the Army, earning a Bronze Star.

He worked for Skelly/Getty Oil for 36 years. He was a deacon and member of the First Baptist Church of Skellytown for many years. He was a charter member and committee member of Skel-Tex Credit Union.

He married Arlene Burnett on June 8, 1946, in Columbus, Kan. She survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Karen and Jimmie Horner, Nancy and Jimmy Fox and Denise and Blaine Smyth, all of Amarillo; two sisters, Virginia Moudy of Okmulgee and Norma Jean Pryor of Oklahoma City; one brother, Merle W. Mathews of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Skellytown. The Rev. Fines Marchman and the Rev. Jim Fox will officiate. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery in Pampa, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors in Pampa.

Mrs. Reeves was born April 22, 1934, in Fornfelt, Mo., to Gayhart and Alice Dora (Cauhorn) Musbach. She lived in Wyandotte for four months, moving from Picher.

She was a homemaker.

She was married to Samuel H. Reeves Sr. He survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include two sons, Roger Reeves of Wyandotte and Samuel Reeves of Miami; two daughters, Deborah Redford of Cullman, Ala., and Alice Burns of Platte City, Mo., eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Greenlawn Cemetery, northwest of Treece, Kan. The Rev. Ray Clonts will officiate.

Helen Lucille Warsop died Friday, Feb. 4, 2008, in Commerce. She was 91.

Mrs. Warsop was born Feb. 11, 1916, in Kansas City, Mo to Fred Lewis and Janetta (Anderson) Watson.

She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir. She won many ribbons at the state fair for her cooking, canning and crafts.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Jean and Paul Owens of Miami, Nancy J. and Dr. Daniel Jones of Berryville, Ark., and Kathleen Ferguson of Miami; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Roy Paxton Warsop; one son, Jack Dean Warsop; her parents; one brother, Fred Lewis Watson Jr. and two sisters, Frances Lorene Connelly and Ailene Scantlin.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. The Rev. Don Kirchhoff will officiate. Burial will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.

William Edward Bill Cornog Jr. of Nixa, Mo., died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008. He was 59.

Mr. Cornog was born Aug. 1, 1948, in Miami to William Edward Cornog St. and Betty June (Cosby) Cornog. He was a 1966 graduate of miami High School.

He was currently a driver for TDC. He was with B.N.R.R. for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Gate of the Temple in Springfield, Mo.

He married Cynthia Arveda on Dec. 14, 1996. She survives.

Additional survivors include nine children and their spouses, Delayne and Joe Vasterling, Amy and Darrin Hall, Darren and Millie Cornog, Christy Smith, Caren and Garrett Gerhauser, Cheyanne and Rick Carter, Zack and Kelly Cornog, Jordan Cornog and Kaisha Cornog; two brothers and their wives, Trevis and Kathy Cornog and Don Hildebrand and wife; one sister and husband, Sheryl and Gordon Bolton, 18 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one son, Brian; his parents, and one brother, Kevin.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Adams Funeral Home in Nixa. Joel Santii will officiate. Burial will be in Payne Cemetery in Nixa.

Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Parker, Charles Noel

Charles Noel Parker

Charles Noel Parker went to be with his Lord on Feb. 5, 2008, at the great age of 93.

Charles was born in Marble, N.C., on April 13, 1914, to Charles V. and Bertha Parker. When he was almost 7-years-old, his family moved to Grove, Okla., where he started school and graduated high school 12 years later.

When he was 21, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps and served in various places for five years. While he was in Idabel, Okla., he med a girl named Nell Dillard.

He joined the Army there in 1940 and served as a mess sergeant in the 45th Infantry Division, Company B, of the 176th Engineer Constrution Battalion. He spent World War II on the Alaskan mainland and on Adak island during the Aleutian Island Campaign. After Germany surrendered, he was station at Washington, D.C., but while Staff Sergeant Parker was on leave in Oklahoma he proposed to Nell whom he had corresponded with all during the war.

She traveled to Washington and they were married in the Old Christ Church in Alexandria, Va., on April 6, 1945.

After his honorable discharge, they moved to Miami, Okla., where he was hired by Goodrich Tires. They eventually settled on a farm, southeast of Miami, and lived there from 1949 to 1991. He retired from Goodrich after 32 years and enjoyed 30 years of retirement. He was a member and deacon of the Ottawa Baptist church for 52 years. He and Nell moved back to Miami in 1991 until 2003 when they moved to the Tulsa area to be near family.

He was pre-deceased by Nell, 1917-2006; his parents; his sisters, Ruby Hudson and Margaret Vanoy Prather; his brother, Fred Parker, and his son-in-law, Ken Conduff.

He is survived by his children, Jan Conduff Crowley and her husband, John, of Kansas; David R. Parker and his wife, Paula, of Tulsa; and Jeanne Tackett and her husband, Rickard, also of Tulsa. He has 11 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was dearly loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 9, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Ottawa Baptist Church, southeast of Miami, Okla. The Rev. Ed McFall will officiate. Interent will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami, Okla. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami, Okla.

Mrs. Harvell was born Nov. 6, 1944, in Joplin to William Edward Lovell Sr. and Gladys Mae (Douthitt) Lovell.

She was a homemaker. She attended Southeast Baptist Church of Miami.

She married Don G. Harvell on May 26, 1966, in Joplin. He survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include one son, Don G. Harvell, of the home; two daughters, Gladys Mae Harvell and Carol Ann Harvell, both of Miami; three brothers, Henry Lovell and Vernon Lovell, both of Joplin and LeRoy Lovell of Carl Junction, Mo.; one sister, Mary Mitchell of Joplin, and two grandchildren, Ryan Birdsong and Brandy Harvell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

Hayes of Tulsa; one son, Roger Trover of Fayetteville, Ark.; five grandchildren, Stephanie Wilson, Stephen Rainey and Kevin Browning and wife Tracy, all of Miami, Chad Hayes and wife Bobbi of Tulsa, and Marc Testerman and wife Deborah of Alma, Ark., 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She married Murel Harmon and then Elmer Hillman. They both preceded her in death. She also is preceded in death by her parents, a son, William (Bill) Harmon, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include one son, Marvin Butch Harmon and wife Nelda of Stigler, one brother, Gene Roberts and wife Mary of Grove, two sisters, Bonnie Roberts of Springfield, Mo., and Laura Boe and husband Don of La Barge, Wyo., two grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Hickory Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Richey officiating.

Bobby B.L. Buxton of Miami died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, at his home after a long illness. He was 80.

Mr. Buxton was born July 24, 1927, in Afton to M.L. and Bertha (Davis) Buxton. He served in the Navy during World War II. He had lived in Miami since 1957, moving from Wichita, Kan.

He had a sheetrock business and had worked for B.F. Goodrich, sold real estate and owned and operated B.L. Buxton Construction Co. for more than 30 years.

Mr. Buxton married Louise Womack on Jan. 22, 1947. She preceded him in death on Dec. 6, 2002. He was also preceded in death by his parents and seven brothers.

Survivors include a son, Ron Buxton of Oklahoma city; three daughters, Sharon Andrew and her husband Walter of Owasso, Mary Ragsdale and her husband Jimmy of Miami and Susan Rhodes and her husband Robbie of Miami, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Monday at the Paul Thomas Funeral Home in Miami. Pastor Leon Weece will officiate.

Interment will be in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami.

Pallbearers will be Steve Hudspeth, Kent Hudspeth, Brad Weldon, Gerald Reynolds, Jimmy Ragsdale and Kevin Andrew.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Genevie M. Holley, formerly of Bluejacket, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2008, in Katy, Texas. She was 95.

Mrs. Holley was born Dec. 16, 1912, in Keelville, Kan., to Herman and Elnora (Griffen) Amos. She married Paul Leroy Holley on Dec. 30, 1932, in Picher. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2000. She was also preceded in death by two sons and two brothers.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family.

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Thomas Funeral Home in Welch with the Rev. Roger Ortleib offiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus, Kan.

She was baptised in Westside Christian Church in Kansas City, Mo., and at the First Baptist Church in Webber's Falls.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Jean and Paul Owens of Miami, Nancy and Dr. Daniel Jones of Berryville, Ark., and Kathleen Ferguson of Miami; one daughter-in-law, Margie Warsop of Yukon; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband: Roy Paxton Warsop; son, Jack Warsop; her parents; brother, Fred Lewis Watson Jr. and sisters, Frances Lorene Connelly and Allene Scantlin.

Services were Feb. 7 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church officiated by the Rev. Don Kirchhoff. Burial was in G.A.R. Cemetery in Miami. Arrangements were under the direction of Cooper-Althouse Funeral Home of Miami.

Charles E. Wells of Baxter Springs, Kan., died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at the Landmark Hospital in Joplin, Mo., after an illness. He was 73.

Mr. Wells was born Nov. 10, 1934, to Charlie and Lina (La Force) Wells in Heber Springs, Ark. He was a carpenter and served during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was of the Baptist faith.

A graveside service will be 1 p.m. Monday at Greenlawn Cemetery near Treece. Interment will follow with the Rev. Bob Martin officiating.

He was a World War II veteran of the Marine Corps.

He worked in the shipyards in Long Beach, Calif. He retired from B.F. Goodrich Tire and Rubber Co. in Miami and later worked as director of the Intertribal Substance Abuse and Prevention Treatment Program for many years.

He was very active in Quapaw tribal government, serving as tribal chairman as well as on the tribal business committee in various offices.

Survivors include his wife, Julia Chapin Gilmore; one sister, Gladys of Miami; one nephew, Charles Hirsch of Miami, and five children.

No services are planned.

Cremation is under the direction of Jensen's Sierra Vista Mortuary.

Stephen Forrest Speer of Wyandotte died Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at his home. He was 61.

Mr. Speer was born Dec. 21, 1946, in Wellington, Kan, to Forrest and Bernadine (Tracy) Speer. He moved to the Grand Lake area in 2001.

For many years, he worked in the aircraft industry all over the country and later worked in real estate.

He married Donna Gaylord on March 21, 1981, in Wichita, Kan. She survives.

Additional survivors include his mother; three sisters and their husbands, Pat and Matt Eck of Wichita, Kan., Sheila and Phillip Talley of Catoosa and Mona and Larry Hughes of Colwich, Kan., and one brother and his wife, James Edward and Brandy Speer of Winfield, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial services will be noon Monday at First Christian Church in Grove. Arrangements are under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Thomas Funeral Home in Welch. The Rev. Caroll Hopkins will officiate. Burial will be in Bluejacket Cemetery.

She was married to Forrest R. Sawyer. He preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Freda Brock, Ruby Vaughn and Wanita Kendirck.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, David and Jane Sawyer of Afton and Dan and Nan Sawyer of Rochester, Minn.; one daughter and her husband, Neena and Chuck Corbin of Jacksonville, Fla.; two grandchildren, Teresa Gordon of Broken Arrow and Chad Corbin of Boulder, Colo., and two great-grandchildren, Christopher Gordon and Nathan Gordon, both of Broken Arrow.

Survivors include one son, Levi Loyd Womack and LaRaeda Sullivan of Miami; one brother, Jim Petersen of Albuqueque, N.M.,, and two sisters, Gladys Dayl of Little Falls, Minn., Shirley Rice of Soucke Center, Minn.

Austin J. Driggars of Afton died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008, at his home after a long illness. He was 77.

Mr. Driggars was born May 4, 1930, in Glenwood, Ark., to James Austin and Carrie (Johnson) Driggars. He attended school in Glenwood, Bethel, Mountain View and Caddo Gap, Ark. He attended Northeastern State in Tahlequah and received his teaching degree in vocational education from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. He lived in numerous places in Arkansas, Tulsa and Beggs before moving to Bernice in 1990 and later moving to Afton.

He was a Korean War veteran of the Navy from 1948 to 1953.

He was a diesel and heavy equipment instructor for OSU Tech in Okmulgee from 1975 to 1990 when he retired. He also worked and taught at OMR Pipeline, White Motor Company rebuilding trucks, Caterpillar, Tulsa Vo-Tech and Pryor Vo-Tech. He was a member of Forest Hill Baptist Church and attended Trinity Baptist Church in Afton and Cowboy Junction. He was on the Ottawa County Industrial Board for 10 years, Afton Housing Board, Senior Citizens Board and the Ottawa County Retired Teachers Association. He worked with local FFA and 4-H Club chapters and was awarded the lifetime Honorary Chapter Farmer award by the FFA. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Afton.

He married Phyllis K. Crane on June 19, 1990, in Bernice. She survives, of the home.

Additional survivors include 10 children and their spouses, Patsy Driggers of Roland, Ark., Trina and Don Buchanan of Muskogee, Jay Driggars of Tulsa, Jerry and Ricki Driggars, Glen Driggars and Dusty and Johnna Driggars, all of Beggs, Rhonda Edwards of Wagoner, Jeannie and Mike Sears of Bluejacket, Terry and Tiffany Cook of Watonga and Robert Finch of Pataya Beach, Thailand; one sister, Sue Davis of Caddo Gap; three brothers and wives, Gerald and Jonell Driggers and Bill and Etha Driggers, all of Pearcy, Ark., and Carl and Rhonda Driggers of Norman, Ark., 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Imogene Rickner, and one brother, James Driggers.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Baptist Church in Afton. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Afton.

Pallbearers will be Michael Langley, B.J. Langley, Caleb Driggars, Jared Edwards, Malachi Sears and Mark Harmon. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Driggars, Gene Claiborn, Avon Forgey, George Snow, Steve Wheeler and Johnny Johnson.

Mrs. Briscoe was born July 18, 1916, in Grove. She was raised in Arkansas, moved the Seneca, Mo., area before moving to Neosho, Mo., in 1969.

She was a homemaker and a member of Bible Holiness Assembly of God Church in Neosho. She worked at the Ozark Christian Academy, also located in Neosho.

She married herschel Briscoe in 1934. He preceded her in death in December 1968.

She was also preceded in death by one son, Gerald Briscoe, two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Briscoe of Quapaw and Bob Briscoe of Joplin, Mo.; two sisters, Jessie Pryor of California and Dorothy Filbeck of Little Rock, Ark., 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
