there are so many of the stones getting damaged just from the weather and years of standing that they are disappearing, they do not need to be knocked down by the mowing people
enough of my venting, I am going to look for all the obits that i have to start posting them to this board, it will mostly be family but, i think i might be related to half of galena
talk to everyone later
I talked to Laura during Galena Days and found out the name of the above cemetery. It was Stevenson's Cemetery, on the highway west of Galena. We, Ruby Jenkins, Peggy and I were also out there. I found a broken tombstone that had been put in the weeds, probably so it could be mowed easier. I replaced it at the head of the grave I thought it was from. The marker needs to be cemented back together and replaced on the grave. It was still readable. It was just one of those slab type. If it ever had a base, it's no longer there.
Since 2003 when this message was posted here, we've learned more about the Cherokee County Cemeteries.
We now know that the Stevenson/Stephenson Cemetery, as well as the Boston Mills/Cox Cemetery are under the care of the Lowell Township Board.
The Lowell Township Board has been taken over by James and Betty Graves. They were unaware of the fact that they had more than one cemetery under their care.
Once they found out, they managed to clean off Boston Mills/Cox Cemetery.
Our Thanks to them, and their son for finally giving the Boston Mills/ Cox Cemetery some care.
When the Hacker struck ezboard on Memorial day 2005, we all lost a lot that we had on our boards.
Ezboard was able to restore some of the boards to a certain extent. Some of the boards had their own backup and restored their own boards. Everything we lost, was lost. In most cases we were back almost to the 2003 start.
We are carrying on. There are no guarantees it won't happen again.
If you get some enjoyment from our board, please pass our link on to others.
I'm making this topic, Laura's Place.
Laura is welcome to post here, and on the rest of the board, she's been a member since it started.
